ERLANGER, Kentucky — A stretch of I-71/75 southbound near the I-275 interchange was shut down for hours early Monday after a pedestrian was fatally struck, sending traffic onto diversion routes across Northern Kentucky.
The crash happened around 3 a.m., with crews closing the highway as they responded to the scene.
Drivers were forced off the interstate and redirected onto I-275, with knock-on delays expected for commuters across the Cincinnati metro, including those travelling from Clermont County.
Alternative routes through Erlanger, Fort Mitchell and Florence were also in use as traffic built up during the early morning hours.
Police have confirmed the incident is fatal, but say the circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear.
In a social media post, Erlanger police said the crash remains under investigation, adding that further details are expected later Monday.
