AVONDALE, Ohio – A man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he set an apartment fire last month that killed two cats and endangered multiple families, then led police on a dangerous chase through several neighborhoods.
Troy Currie, of Walnut Hills, is charged with aggravated arson in connection with a fire at an apartment on Rockdale Avenue in Avondale on March 15.
According to court records, the fire was intentionally set while several residents — including families and children — were inside the building at the time.
No people were injured, but two cats died as a result of the fire.
Authorities say the case escalated days later when officers attempted to stop Currie during a traffic stop. Police say he fled, leading officers on a pursuit through multiple neighborhoods, running red lights and nearly causing several crashes. The chase ended when Currie stopped and attempted to run from officers on foot.
During the arrest, one officer suffered an injury to their hand.
Currie now faces multiple charges related to both the fire and the pursuit.
