YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio — Former First Lady Michelle Obama visited Yellow Springs on April 12 to record a live episode of her podcast with comedian Dave Chappelle.
The event took place at the newly restored Union Schoolhouse, which now serves as the home of WYSO 91.3 FM. The appearance was part of Obama’s weekly podcast “IMO,” produced by High Ground, the media company she founded with former President Barack Obama.
Chappelle, who has longstanding ties to Yellow Springs, played a key role in preserving the historic building through investment by his real estate company. The property, originally built in 1872, was one of the village’s earliest integrated schools before sitting vacant for years.
The podcast discussion focused on topics including community, family, and Chappelle’s career in comedy and entertainment.
The event was held in front of a small, invitation-only audience and coincided with a broader week of celebrations marking the restoration of the schoolhouse and WYSO’s updated broadcast facility. Chappelle has been widely credited with helping maintain WYSO’s presence in Yellow Springs through his investment in the project.
