CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio – A Clermont County middle school teacher has been indicted on multiple felony charges following allegations involving several students.
Nicholas Gilbert, 32, of Williamsburg Township, was indicted April 2 by a Clermont County grand jury on four counts of sexual battery.
According to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on Feb. 5 after a parent reported concerns about alleged inappropriate physical contact involving a staff member at West Clermont Middle School and multiple students.
Detectives responded to the school and learned the teacher had already been placed on administrative leave after school officials were notified of the allegations.
During the investigation, authorities identified four juvenile victims. Investigators say the students reported multiple instances of inappropriate and unwanted physical contact throughout the school day on multiple occasions.
Gilbert declined to speak with detectives when they attempted to interview him, according to officials.
The Clermont County grand jury later issued a summons on indictment. Gilbert is scheduled to appear in Clermont County Common Pleas Court on April 10 at 9:30 a.m.
In a statement, the West Clermont School District said it immediately placed the teacher on administrative leave after receiving the initial report and notified law enforcement.
The district said it has cooperated fully with investigators and emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains its top priority.
Additional inquiries into the case are being handled by the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office.
