UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Clermont County man is facing a weapons charge after police say he fired a rifle from inside a vehicle while under the influence after calling 911 to report suspicious people on his property.
Brandon A. Truman, 31, of Batavia, is charged with using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to a court affidavit, officers were dispatched to a home on Shephard Road around 2 a.m. April 21 after Truman reported two people on his property and said he had armed himself with a rifle.
Police said the report was determined to be unfounded. But as officers were returning to their cruisers, they heard two gunshots from Truman’s location.
Investigators say they returned and found Truman attempting to move his vehicle. A consent search allegedly uncovered a glass pipe in his pocket.
According to the affidavit, officers found a rifle inside the vehicle with a loaded magazine inserted and the safety off. They also reported finding two shell casings, a hole in the vehicle’s floorboard, and a bullet mark in the concrete where the vehicle had been parked. The magazine contained 25 live rounds.
The affidavit states Truman admitted to smoking crack cocaine earlier in the day.
A bond hearing was scheduled Tuesday in Clermont County Municipal Court.
