CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A 19-year-old man is facing multiple aggravated murder charges after a victim was found shot to death in a Clermont County roadway, according to court documents.
Dakarai Mekhi Campbell, 19, was charged Monday, April 6, in connection with the March 8 homicide, which is being jointly investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a criminal complaint, the victim was found dead on the road with a gunshot wound to the head, prompting a homicide investigation.
Evidence gathered through social media records placed Campbell and two other individuals at the scene. Search warrants executed during the investigation uncovered multiple firearms, narcotics, and cash. Investigators also recovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and ammunition matching the type used in the shooting. The firearm was later confirmed to be the weapon used in the homicide, according to court documents.
Campbell told investigators he was present in a vehicle with two other suspects and acknowledged there were multiple loaded handguns in the vehicle. Authorities say the group had arranged to meet for a narcotics transaction and discussed robbing the victim prior to the shooting.
According to the complaint, the suspects fled the scene after the shooting with cash and a cellphone, which was later discarded.
Campbell faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated robbery. A bond hearing is scheduled for today, April 7, in Clermont County Municipal Court.
Campbell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
