BATAVIA, Ohio — The Clermont County 4-H Air Rifle Team finished 25th out of 55 teams in the Northeast Region during the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s national Air Rifle Postal Match, with standout individual performances including one shooter ranking 19th nationwide.
Five team members submitted scores in the three-position (kneeling, prone and standing) 10-meter air rifle competition held Jan. 13, 2026: Will Walker, Tate Bieber, Will Desgrange, Sam Queen and Charlotte Queen. The shooters, ages 12 to 16, are part of the county’s Shooting Sports Club, coached by Barry Cole and Bruce Voorhees.
Charlotte Queen, 13, led the team with a score of 275-6X out of a possible 300, placing her 19th out of 1,161 competitors nationwide and sixth out of 440 in the Northeast Region, which spans 25 states. Her positional scores were 95-3X kneeling, 94-2X prone and 86-1X standing.
Queen earned an invitation to the CMP Regional Championships in April at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio, after previously winning at the Indiana CMP State Match on Jan. 3. She also automatically qualified for the National Three-Position Air Rifle Championship in July.
Additionally, Queen, along with her brother Sam Queen and Will Desgrange, advanced to the Top 8 shoot-off — a rare feat for members of the same club in such a large field. The trio was featured in the Winter 2026 edition of the CMP’s e-magazine “On the Mark.”
The CMP Postal Match allows athletes to compete from their home ranges and submit scores by mail, providing an accessible format for youth and others to participate in national-level marksmanship.
The Clermont County team’s performance highlights the strength of local 4-H Shooting Sports programs in fostering skilled young competitors in a safe, structured environment.
