BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Batavia Township man at the center of a massive fraud case has now been indicted on more than 100 charges, in what investigators say is a scheme that targeted victims across multiple states.
Cody Winn, 27, of Batavia Township, is facing dozens of counts of theft and telecommunications fraud, according to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the case involves more than $1 million allegedly taken from victims, with the number of charges growing following a new indictment.
Authorities say Winn is accused of posing under a different name and promoting what appeared to be a legitimate investment opportunity — promising fast returns that never materialized.
Investigators say victims from across the country were drawn in, with reports of individuals sending tens of thousands of dollars each before losing contact.
The case first came to light after a complaint from out of state, triggering a wider investigation that uncovered alleged victims spanning numerous states.
The sheriff’s office described the case as a large-scale fraud investigation involving multiple victims and significant financial losses, with the possibility more victims could come forward.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is urged to contact the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.
