WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — At least two people were taken to the hospital after an early-morning wrong-way crash shut down part of Interstate 75 northbound near the I-275 interchange Friday.
The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. on I-75 northbound, just beyond I-275 in West Chester Township. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed multiple people were hospitalised following the wreck.
Northbound lanes of I-75 were shut for several hours, along with the ramps from both eastbound and westbound I-275 to I-75 northbound. The lanes have since reopened.
Officials have not yet released the names of those involved, the extent of their injuries, or what led to the wrong-way crash.
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of highway collisions because vehicles are often travelling toward each other at speed, with little time for drivers to react. ODOT has previously warned drivers that if they ever encounter a wrong-way vehicle, they should move as far right as safely possible, slow down and call 911 when it is safe to do so.
