MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Clermont County — A 77-year-old man was pulled from a burning car in Miami Township after a police officer smashed the driver’s side window to reach him.
The rescue happened Sunday, May 10, on Naomi Drive near Eric Drive, after police were called to a vehicle fire.
When the officer arrived, smoke could be seen coming from the front of the car and the driver was still trapped inside. Police said the man was having trouble getting out.
Dashcam video released by Miami Township police shows the officer breaking the window, helping the man out, then grabbing a fire extinguisher from the cruiser to tackle the flames.
Fire crews arrived shortly afterward.
Police said no one was hurt.
The department said it was proud of the officers who jumped into action during the rescue. A public Facebook post from Miami Township police described the man rescued as elderly and said officers acted quickly to get him out of the burning vehicle.
