WILMINGTON, Ohio – Funeral services will be held Friday for an Ohio National Guard pilot killed in a military aircraft crash in Iraq.
Capt. Curtis J. Angst, 30, of Wilmington, died March 12 when a KC-135 Stratotanker went down during a mission in western Iraq.
He will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Dayton National Cemetery.
Angst was serving as a pilot in support of Operation Epic Fury at the time of the crash. He trained as an aerospace engineer before commissioning as an officer in 2021 and completed pilot training in 2022.
He later qualified to fly the KC-135 and was assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing based at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus.
Angst previously served as a vehicle maintenance technician in the Ohio Air National Guard after enlisting in 2015, then advanced through the ranks to become a pilot.
He was among six service members killed when the aircraft went down.
His wife, parents, and sister survive. His family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
