BETHEL, Ohio — A Bethel man is facing a criminal charge after authorities say he fired a gun while under the influence during a confrontation at his home.
Joshua D. Lanigan, of Crane Schoolhouse Road, has been charged with using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to court records, deputies with the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office were called to the property on January 4 following reports of a man with a gun.
Investigators say the alleged victim had arrived at the home to collect personal belongings when the situation escalated.
Authorities allege Lanigan fired shots in the direction of the victim and his son as they attempted to leave the property. A bullet hole was later found in the victim’s truck, which was not there before the incident.
Court documents state Lanigan admitted firing a shot but claimed he was attempting to scare the pair.
A search warrant was carried out, and laboratory results later showed Lanigan had methamphetamine and amphetamine in his system at the time of the incident.
The charge was formally filed on Thursday. A warrant has now been issued for Lanigan’s arrest, with bond yet to be set.
