UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Health inspectors cited Fuji Steak House in Cincinnati’s Eastgate area for live cockroach sightings during a recent inspection, one of four critical violations flagged at the Japanese hibachi and sushi restaurant.
The inspection at Fuji Eastgate INC, located at 4389 Eastgate Square Dr., documented live cockroaches in the back room. Officials directed the establishment to contact pest control, thoroughly clean the affected area and closely monitor for additional pest activity.
The cockroach observation was classified as a critical violation related to controlling pests. It stood alongside other serious findings, including improper storage of raw meats above ready-to-eat vegetables, unsanitized food-contact surfaces such as microwave interiors and soda nozzles at the bar, and an unlabeled chemical spray bottle (a repeat issue that was corrected on-site).
The restaurant also received three noncritical violations involving equipment and facility maintenance.
Fuji Steak House, popular for its hibachi grilling and sushi menu, remains open with regular lunch and dinner hours listed online. No closure was ordered in connection with the inspection.
Clermont County health department records indicate this as part of routine monitoring, with some prior violations recurring. Restaurant management did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the pest finding or corrective actions taken.
Pest sightings in food establishments are taken seriously under health codes, as they can signal broader sanitation or structural issues that require prompt professional intervention to protect public health, the health department said.
