UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Police say an attempted overnight break-in at a Clermont County credit union ATM, triggered an alarm and led to felony safe-cracking charges against a Georgia woman after investigators say she acted as a lookout.
Court records filed in Clermont County Municipal Court charge Yoskarlys Estephania Lopez-Guevara, of Atlanta, Georgia, with safe-cracking, a fourth-degree felony.
According to a complaint filed by Union Township Detective Bryan Taylor, the incident happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. on March 13 at the Sharefax Credit Union Interactive Teller Machine at 604 Ivy Gateway.
Investigators say a masked suspect dressed in dark clothing approached the machine and opened the teller unit, triggering an alarm before fleeing the scene.
Detectives later identified a black Mercedes C300 with a Georgia license plate seen circling the area around the time of the attempted break-in.
Police say the vehicle appeared to be acting as a lookout during the attempted safe-cracking before leaving the area and traveling toward Kentucky.
Later that day, officers with the Lexington, Kentucky Police Department located the Mercedes at a gas station with four occupants inside.
One of the people in the vehicle matched the clothing and items worn by the masked suspect captured on surveillance video, according to investigators.
Authorities say Lopez-Guevara was inside the vehicle and is accused of helping facilitate the crime by acting as a lookout.
Her identity was confirmed during the investigation, including through information obtained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, court records state.
A warrant has been issued for Lopez-Guevara’s arrest, and bond will be set by the court.
