WILLIAMSBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A tow truck driver from Covington, Kentucky, suffered severe leg injuries Monday evening when he was hit by a passing vehicle while working on the shoulder of westbound state Route 32 in Clermont County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Mark Miller, 33, was standing beside his parked 2017 Ford F-550 tow truck, which was actively towing a disabled vehicle near mile marker 12 and Half Acre Road, around 6:38 p.m. on March 9, 2025. Miller had activated the truck’s yellow beacon lights and was heading to the rear of the vehicle when a 2020 GMC Terrain, driven by a 26-year-old man from Williamsburg, struck him.
The impact threw Miller into his tow truck, shattering glass and causing the vehicle to jerk. A friend who spoke with a trainee present at the scene described Miller lying in a pool of blood on the roadway afterward. The driver of the GMC initially left the scene but returned shortly after.
Miller, who had both legs crushed, was airlifted by medical helicopter to UC Medical Center in Cincinnati for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Troopers from the Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded and are investigating the crash, which the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing for possible charges.
Daryl Biddle, a longtime friend of Miller since 2015, praised his character.
“His compassion and the way he treats people—he’s one of a kind,” Biddle said.
Friends have rallied support for Miller, with mentions of a GoFundMe to help with his recovery, though specific details were not immediately available.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
